Strunjan is one of the nicest seaside villages on the Slovenian Adriatic. Within walking distance of the villa are a variety of restaurants (some specialising in seafood), bars, shops, sports facilities (tennis, volleyball) & a large health / wellness centre with a wide variety of treatments available. Strunjan Bay is 10 minutes walk offering a lovely view across to beautiful St George's cathedral in Piran and excellent swimming from a man made beach and on a natural beach in the next bay at the foot of the lovely Strunjan cliffs (20 minutes walk from the villa). The village is just a few km from Piran, a beautiful, historic Venetian town on a peninsula jutting into the Adriatic & Izola, a small, bustling fishing village / resort town. Piran and Izola, which both offer plentiful opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, eating out and beaches. The larger resort of Portoroz is a few km further. Daytrips to world-class caves, the Lippizaner stud, Ljubljana & Venice are easily possible.
BEACH
The nearest beach is the one of hotel Svoboda and it is about 600 m distant from Aurora. We highly recommend it in spring and autumn, but it might be a bit crowded during the high season period.
A better bet in high season is to follow the path leading round the coast and away from Svoboda beach. The most beautiful beach is the MESECEV ZALIV beach just a few minutes walk from Aurora, under the Strunjan cliffs ( you can ask for precise information at the Hotel Svoboda). It is usually a relatively uncrowded place to swim locally. There you have a chance of finding a relatively secluded area to sunbathe and swim from. Salinera beach is lovely, too and it is within a walking distance from the house, in fron of the Hotel Salinera. For over a decade the beach in close proximity of Villa Aurora has boasted a Blue Flag eco-label, which signifies that the beach is friendly to the environment and bathers. There is a children's playground at the beach, and a children's club is open there during summer. The warm waters of the Adriatic are good for swimming from May / June through to September / October and there is a range of sandy, grassy, concrete and rocky beaches all along the Slovenian Adriatic. In additon, the resorts along the coast offer their fair share of pools and water parks. |
SWIMMING POOL
As for the pool, there's a communal swimming pool in the hotels nearby and our guests can use it. There’s an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool. Three massage pools. A children's pool. Heated sea water. The pool area is also connected to saunas. The pool is about 5-10 min. walk from the Villa and the entrance would cost about 8-10 Euro. The Coastal region is one of Slovenia's inviting regions for spa and wellness tourism. Focusing around the Talaso Strunjan Spa & Hotel and Portorož Life Class Spa & Wellness Centre, both included in Slovenia's 15 certified natural spa resorts, but with the added attraction of attractive seaside positions and of course offering a wide range of recreation, relxation, beauty and medical treatments. SPA Talaso Strunjan is in an exceptional position - among the pine trees in the heart of a regional nature park. The spa specializes in treating respiratory and rheumatic diseases, chest and pulmonary injuries, as well as conditions following locomotor injuries and surgery. Strunjan bay offers more than 2,300 hours of sunshine per year. WELLNESS Saltworkers massage, Thalasso massage, Zen Shiatsu massage, Hot stone massage, Chocolate massage, Honey massage, Exfoliation, Sea water massage baths, Aromatherapy, Anti-cellulite, Facial & Body care, Weight loss, Relaxation programmes |
WALKING
There are numerous possibilities for walking in the nature...there are easy ways, more intensive ones..."Nordic Walking" with sticks is very popular, too. You can do it yourself or join a guide who will also lend you sticks in the nearby hotel. Nature is simply marvellous here. There are many natural beaches and some "organised beaches"; for all tastes.
There is some excellent coastal walking in the region - including the nature reserve path at Šecovlje and the clifftop walks at Strunjan. There is also some great hill walking inland from the coast. |
CYCLING
Villa Aurora is also highly appreciated by guests who are fond of biking; they will find their Paradise here. There is an excellent roadbiking trail which runs right next to the sea between Koper and Izola. There is also good biking in the Sečovlje Salt Pans nature reserve. The hilltop villages inland from the coast make excellent mountain biking territory |
WI-FI
You can find free wifi at Villa Aurora and also very easily all over Slovenia: in bars, restaurants,
bus stations, hotels (a short walk from the villa, with a nice coffee at
the hotel terrace.....), in towns, shopping areas...

PORTOROZ
IZOLA
It is a small peninsula with the mediterranean atmosphere. The traditional fishing, shipbuilding and the newly built marina, gather together people who have fallen in love with the sea. Thanks to the warm and charming atmosphere of the smallest town on the Slovene coast visitors are fond of Izola and like to return. To enrich your stay there are diverse cultural and sport events, small shops and pleasant places where delicious seafood is served.

KOPER
Men have left their mark here through the history – Greeks, Illyrians, Romans, Venetians, Habsburgs, Slavs and others. Different people left their strongholds, sailors and travellers their precious cargoes. Thus they left a treasure chest of picturesque cultures that still enchant the visitors. It is also an excellent place for shopping – there’s a new shopping centre called SUPERNOVA and another one called TUS with bowling and cinema centre as well .

PIRAN
ts spirit of history and the sea-embrace, scent of salt, superb sunsets and astonishing views from the city walls – just some of the many reasons why one should make visiting the jewel of Piran a must on any journey to Slovenia. Piran’s saltpans have given it power and wealth as the town has always lived through the sea. The Medieval Piran has ruled over the bay for centuries. Without the sea, there would be no Piran. The town continues to be bound to the sea, its people still harvest the salt and fish.

KARST REGION
Behind the Slovene coast is the Karst Region . In the cellars of the stone houses excellent wines are poured and sold, and in the attics excellent pršut is cured in the bora wind. This gourmets’ paradise is also a heaven for lovers of the beauties of the karst underworld. The Skocijan Caves, which are on UNESCO’s list of natural and cultural world heritage sites, boast the 1400-meter long and 150-meter deep underground canyon of the Reka River.
|
POSTONJSKA JAMA
The Postojna cave is the only one of the kind in the world. It is the largest cave in the “classic karst” , there’s a cave train which allows you to admire the size and splendour of the underground world. Postojna Cave is considered the cradle of speleobiology, the branch of biology that studies the subterranean world. The Proteus Vivarium introduces visitors to special features of the subterranean environment, and give them the chance to view the most characteristic specimen of cave fauna.

LJUBLJANA
The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is about 1 hour ( by car) away from Strunjan. It is not excessively large- it’s smaller than one would expect from a capital with a government and parliamentary building, all administrative services, foreign embassies and the head offices of banks and companies. A new spirit has revitalised the streets of the historical centre without corrupting it. The splendour of old houses of well-to-do families has remained untouched. There’s a castle on a hill in the centre of Ljubljana and who leaves the city without visiting the castle has not really seen Ljubljana.
